Words vs. Music

I think that words can be instruments of separation and social power in a way. A lot of words have been known to be powerful and can definitely be used to separate people and show social power between people. Words can send messages that can change one’s way of thinking or can show where someone stands as far as power. Words shared can separate one class from another. Words can also bring people together if they find that they share the same interests.
Rhythm and dance are fusional media that have no concern with social power because music alone is not biased to any race, gender, or orientation at all. Anyone, no matter who they are, can enjoy music in the same way as the next person. Music is like a language that everyone can understand and everyone can appreciate without there being separation or regard for social power. If there are words sang along with the music, then it might change because then the music has a message that not everyone will like or agree with.
Many places around the world use music as a form of communication with their gods or there is interpretive music that has a message through dance.  A person’s true self can shine through dance in a way that they could not express themselves in words. Music and dance is another way of communicating how you are feeling without having to say any words. Music has opened up a lot of windows of communication due to the different types of music and how they differ from strong to soft.
Body language sometimes stands out more than words and therefore music allows for a new form of communication that sometimes is not as easy to do in words. Music itself can give a calm feeling or an angry feeling and anyone can relate to either one depending on how they are feeling. Music is a way to let go and show whatever you want in dance. There is no right way to express dance. It will be different from one person to the next but it’s a language that anyone will understand.
Music can bring people from different places together and all kinds of people can enjoy the same type of music. The different types of music like funk, techno, or rave all give everyone a chance to express themselves through dance in different ways. As Beatrice Aaronson said it “Music and Culture” by Anna Tomasino, “Verbal communication is incapable of obtaining the efficiency of rhythm and dance to reach a funsional state of togetherness.” What she meant by this is that words cannot do what music can do as far as bringing people together. Words can separate people when music will not do that. Music is something that everyone can relate to because everyone can enjoy and appreciate it and there is no need for any words when it comes to music. This is why a lot of people love music like jazz because it is purely instruments working together in creating music that makes one feel good.

  3. Yes, I agree with all you are saying but that music has no social boundaries. Music is a serious cultural and social boundary. As for Aaronson I do believe because of my heavy involvement with that crowd of people she is talking more about the drug use. I elaborate more about it on my blog. I do not know how seriously she would be taken if she mentioned it. They are all into feelings and not words. Just shut up and "trip". You need to feel it not talk about it because you are getting in touch with your higher self. Your drugged up higher self. How lovely. As for dancing to music without words for a more arousing experience it honestly does not matter. I can dance to music with or without words. I have encountered no hindrances ever. It has not mattered so much the words as the beat. I do think thats what they mean. How the beat moves you. But you know this as well as I to be true, putting words to a beat does’t kill it. When they got the beat they got it. Rap would suffer terribly without words. Without the rap master bustin’ a rhyme what would they have? I don’t think many true rap lovers would agree with her. As for a rockin’ guitar no words needed there, just rip it wide open please! Yes rock n’ roll fan here. I love instrumentals known as classical guitar. I use to say I loved classical music and be scoffed at. But classical guitar is classical. To each his own I say. The only factor that interests me is the accountability factor. Because I love God, our kids, and all others I do not like to see them targeted by a money grubbing, evil agenda and falling victim to those devices. Thank you very much. Have a good day.

  4. I really liked your blog this week and I agree with everything you said. I really like how you brought up that music is like a language that everyone and anyone can understand. I totally agree. It definitely defies social boundaries and two totally different people can be united by a song or by a certain artist. Dance, which obviously goes along with music, tears down social walls as well. I like how you said, “Music is a way to let go and show whatever you want in dance. There is no right way to express dance. It will be different from one person to the next but it’s a language that anyone will understand.” Dancing brings music to a whole new meaning. Now it’s not even about the lyrics, it is about the rhythm and about how you express yourself through that rhythm and feeling.

  5. I never really thought much about the difference music takes on when words are missing. I think I am going to appreciate music much more when it is only an instrumental. Music is a beautiful art and sometimes should be enjoyed purely for the beauty of it. I am the type of person who loves the message transcribed in music but now I am realizing the need for music without words sometimes. I have always loved lyrical content in music. I think everyone appreciates something they can relate to. Some value something they wish they could relate to. Or others simply like hearing outside of their normal circumstances. My point is that stories come from music and personally, I have been caught up in the messages music gives out. Music can be a great thing without words. Music can be as beautiful as the ocean waves or birds chirping, both things that contain no words. The rhythm in music truly breaks down all barriers.
